Robbie Brady: Leaving Man United for Hull was right call

Robbie Brady has said leaving Manchester United for Hull City was the right decision, even though it was a big step to move on from the club where he spent six years.

Brady was highly rated at Old Trafford and at one stage was seen as a potential successor to Patrice Evra at left-back. However, after failing to secure the first-team chances he wanted, he joined Hull, initially on loan, and helped the club win promotion to the Premier League in 2013.

Leaving with Sir Alex's blessing

Speaking in 2013, Brady said he left United on good terms and credited the club and Sir Alex Ferguson for his development as a footballer.

"I left United on good terms. The six years I was there really helped me as a footballer. I wouldn't be where I am now if it wasn't for United and Sir Alex. I enjoyed my time there," he said.

He added: "It's a big step leaving United. I didn't know anything else but them. But it was the right decision and I'm really happy. I left with Sir Alex's blessing."

Ireland career and return to Old Trafford

Brady went on to win 60 caps for Ireland and played at Euro 2016, where he headed a winning goal against Italy to send his country through to the knockout stages.

Now 34, he is a free agent after leaving Preston North End earlier this summer. He is likely to have a close eye on events at the MKM Stadium, where Hull and United begin their seasons in Saturday's lunchtime kick-off.

Hull's Premier League return

Hull are back in the Premier League after winning promotion via the play-offs last season. Michael Carrick is looking for a positive start to his reign as permanent boss after leading United to third spot and Champions League football as interim head coach.
