Reddish Vale Country Park in Stockport offers 161 hectares of countryside within the M60, featuring waterways, woodland, open meadows, and dozens of walking trails. It's a perfect summer destination for families, with an animal park and a striking 16-arch viaduct.
Park Features and Wildlife
The park is nestled between Reddish, Denton, and Bredbury, providing a slice of nature amid urban sprawl. Its diverse habitats attract kingfishers, herons, cormorants, and coots. Historically, the site housed a calico print works that closed in 1975, with remnants like former mill ponds and an impressive weir resembling a waterfall.
The 16-arch viaduct, constructed in 1875, carries the Hope Valley Line over the Tame Valley and is a standout feature. The park also offers cycle routes linking to the Tame Valley, Etherow, and Goyt Valley.
Reddish Vale Farm
Reddish Vale Farm, a family-run animal park and riding school, is a popular spot. Previously a derelict dairy farm, the Dillon family revived it in the late 1990s, opening the riding school in 1997 and the animal farm in 2003. Children can interact with guinea pigs, rabbits, and goats, and enjoy pony grooming and animal feeding sessions.
This August, Farm Fest offers family-friendly activities including face painting, a 'beach area', a foam party, and a circus workshop. Tickets start at £12.50 for children and adults, with a family ticket (two adults, two children) at £45. The farm is open daily from 10am to 4pm from August 1 to August 31.
