Christmas at Grey Street, a new festive pop-up bar in Newcastle city centre, will open on November 12, the same night as the city's Christmas lights switch-on. The bar, taking over the former home of restaurant-bar Leila Lily's, will run throughout the festive period and close for good at 6pm on Christmas Eve.
What the pop-up offers
Visitors will find a green and gold-themed space offering two drinks-focused experiences. One is a Christmas movie room showing festive films such as Home Alone, Love Actually and The Grinch, with subtitles in place of sound. Customers in this room will receive a free mini bag of popcorn.
There will also be a main bar area. The cocktail range includes drinks inspired by the films and by favourite desserts. One cocktail, called To Me, You Are Perfect, inspired by Love Actually, is a vodka-based strawberry martini topped with cream and finished with a rose petal. A Filthy Marg is a tequila-based nod to Home Alone.
Drinks and opening hours
Christmas-inspired cocktails will cost £9, with a two-for-£15 offer running during a 5pm to 7pm happy hour. A classic cocktail menu will be priced £1 less. For beer fans, there will be a self-service Guinness machine, as well as options such as Hawkstone beer, cider, vodka and gin that have featured on TV in Clarkson's Farm.
Bar owner Malhotra Group will donate £1 from every hot chocolate and Aperol Spritz sold to the venue's nominated charity, Children's Cancer North.
Launch and schedule
The pop-up will debut with the help of two stilt-walking Nutcrackers drawing attention to its festive archway entrance. Following the launch, it will open from Thursday to Sunday throughout November, then seven days a week from noon in December. Live music will feature during the opening weekend and will continue, including a mix of DJ sets, in December before the bar closes for good at 6pm on Christmas Eve.
