A pregnant mother has accused TUI of overcharging after she was quoted £2,413 to add her newborn to a family holiday to Turkey, only to discover the hotel would do it for free.
Bethan Kelham, 35, from Cardiff, booked a £4,500 all-inclusive trip for May with her partner and two children. After finding out she was pregnant in July, with a due date in March, she contacted TUI to discuss options for bringing the baby.
The civil servant claims TUI told her she would need to pay an extra £2,413 to add the infant, bringing the total to nearly £7,000, or face a £600 cancellation fee. TUI reportedly said the current room was unsuitable for a three-month-old, requiring an upgrade.
Refusing to pay, Ms Kelham contacted the hotel directly, which confirmed via email that adding a baby would be free. She later complained to TUI, who she says offered to add the baby for £30.
Ms Kelham said: 'I felt I was penalised for being pregnant. They're ripping pregnant people off.' She has urged others not to book with TUI, calling the experience 'an absolute nightmare.'
A TUI spokesman said the correct fee should have been £55, and the £2,500 quote was due to a 'system-triggered' error. They apologised and said they are investigating.
