Matt Baker's mother Janice broke down in tears on the Channel 4 show Our Farm in the Dales after being knocked over by her flock of sheep. The 65-year-old was preparing the sheep for clipping when she fell and was trampled, resulting in a broken leg that required hospital treatment.
The accident prompted former One Show presenter Matt, 43, to step in and help his parents run their 100-acre farm. His father Mike, 77, also needed assistance, leaving the family concerned about the future of the remote farm.
In the programme, Matt suggested changing the flock to lighter sheep, saying: 'The Hampshire Downs that we have bred here for years are big sheep... I just don't think that they are the way forward, for you now.' Janice agreed but became emotional when choosing a new flock, admitting: 'It's the first time I've actually had to make a decision because of what's happened.'
Matt recalled the accident: 'My dad rang me up one morning totally out of the blue and said your mum's had an accident... she got knocked over by a flock of sheep and she broke her leg.' The four-part documentary follows Matt as he takes charge of the farm, describing it as 'about those moments in your life the tables turn and you start looking after your parents.'
