Returning to Kos for the first time since a late-teens 18-30 holiday, a writer expected another loud, party-focused stay. Instead, she found the five-star KOIA All-Suite Wellbeing Resort, a tranquil hillside retreat that completely changed her view of the island.
Perched above the Aegean Sea, the adults-only resort opened in 2023 and has only 51 suites, so it never feels crowded. Built into the hillside overlooking Agios Fokas, about 12 minutes' drive from Kos Town, it draws inspiration from Hippocrates, who was born on the island, with wellbeing woven into every detail.
Suites and amenities
Accommodation ranges from pared-back Cave Suites to Sea View Suites with private infinity pools or outdoor whirlpools. All are styled in neutral tones with natural stone and timber, and every suite enjoys full or partial Aegean views. Pillow menus, rainfall showers, smart-controlled blinds and room-service dining add to the sense of private luxury. Facilities include a main pool, an indoor spa pool and a gym.
Dining at Thyme
There is just one restaurant, Thyme, but the food is exceptional enough that no other options are missed. Breakfast is a generous buffet of local fruit, pastries and made-to-order dishes, served with sea views. In the evening, Thyme becomes an elegant à la carte restaurant featuring Mediterranean cuisine, seasonal ingredients and regional wines. The shrimp linguine was so good it was ordered four times. Lunch offers a completely different menu, with sandwiches and grilled options, and the pool bar serves iced coffees throughout the day. At sunset, the Elixir Bar offers cocktails overlooking some of the best views on the island.
Wellness and activities
Guests can book open-air morning yoga, a baking class with the head chef, or visit the Ydor Spa to privately hire the Himalayan salt room and sauna cabin, followed by a full body massage. The floating breakfast experience is also highly recommended, with food drifting across a private pool. Hiking trails from the hotel lead to the medieval ruins of Palio Pyli or Mount Díkaios, whose summit offers sunset views. Kos Town provides Roman landmarks such as the Odeon of Kos and Casa Romana, plus tavernas. With a hire car, visitors can reach the thermal springs at Therma Beach on the island's northern tip.

From August 2026, a new Greek restaurant, a second pool and additional suites will be added.
