The Lake District has been named the most popular destination for winter staycations in the UK, according to a new study by holiday parks firm Park Leisure. The region topped a list of ten locations, beating out other countryside favourites such as the Cotswolds and Yorkshire Dales.
The research found that over a fifth of Brits are planning a winter break this year, with 6.7 million preferring winter holidays due to quieter conditions and the enchanting snowy weather. The Lake District's appeal lies in its scenic walking trails, cosy pubs with roaring fireplaces, charming cottages, and indoor attractions.
Devon and Cornwall took second and third spots respectively, despite being typically associated with summer holidays. Their coastal walks and beaches offer a peaceful alternative without the summer crowds. Countryside escapes remained the top choice, with the Yorkshire Dales, Cotswolds, and Scottish Highlands also proving popular.
City breaks also featured prominently, with London, Edinburgh, and York making the list, likely due to their Christmas markets. The full top ten destinations can be found on Park Leisure's website.
