Beaches

As with any island destination, one of the must-do activities upon arriving in Jersey is visiting one of its numerous stunning beaches. The standout spot, according to TripAdvisor reviews which rank it as the fourth-best attraction on the island, is St Brelade's Bay Beach.

The bay serves as a genuine centre for all manner of pursuits, providing various equipment hire options for those eager to attempt kayaking, banana boating, or venturing out on a pedal boat. What's more, accessibility-wise, it's perfect and readily accessible through local bus routes, or holidaymakers can utilise the public parking facilities along the bay.

A recent holidaymaker said: "This is a lovely sandy beach. We visited when the tide was out, so there was a vast expanse of golden sand. On a bright sunny afternoon, this was an ideal place to relax."

Another posted: "A beautiful soft sandy beach with many cafes and restaurants. The floral displays in the gardens are beautiful, making it very picturesque. Everywhere is clean and tidy."

There is a frequent bus service to the beach, and next to the bus stop there is a lovely little beach shop that sells all sorts of souvenirs, essentials and beachwear.

Things to do

Despite its compact dimensions, the island possesses an enormous amount of heritage, featuring not one but two magnificent castles. The most renowned would likely be Elizabeth Castle, where guests can spend their afternoon discovering an expansive 15-acre stronghold with assistance from a tour guide.

The guided tours have received considerable acclaim from tourists for being captivating, with one noting: "I have to say the tour that he took us on was both funny and interesting, making his historical life and times extremely vivid."

Included in his tour was time in the actual house where he himself lived while living on the island as governor. If only history could have been taught like this when I was at school!

The other remarkable castle is Mont Orgueil Castle, featuring over 200 steps leading to the summit, providing sweeping views across the coastline and the island. As you navigate the staircases, towers and concealed chambers, you'll discover hidden gems and absorb the building's past through a collection of artworks displayed on the walls.

To experience the island from a fresh perspective and gain insight into another historic structure, a visit to Mont Orgueil delivers precisely that.
