A family has spoken of their horror after finding maggots in food served to them on a Greek holiday. The incident occurred at a hotel buffet in Crete, where the family were staying for a week-long break.
Mother-of-two Sarah Jones, 34, from Manchester, said she noticed the maggots crawling in a dish of pasta. 'I was about to serve some to my daughter when I saw them moving. It was disgusting,' she said.
The family complained to hotel staff, who apologised and removed the dish. However, they said the experience ruined their holiday. 'We couldn't eat anything after that. We were constantly checking our food,' Sarah added.
The hotel management said they had investigated the incident and taken appropriate action, including retraining staff and increasing pest control measures. They offered the family a complimentary meal, which they declined.
Sarah said she wants to warn other holidaymakers to be vigilant. 'Check your food before you eat it. You never know what might be in there,' she said.
