A mother has revealed what she believes is the best European city break for families with children, and it's not a typical tourist hotspot. Claire, one half of the twin duo behind the travel account @twinperspectives, shared her experience visiting Stockholm, Sweden, with her daughter, calling it the 'best city break in the world for kids'.
According to Claire, Stockholm offers a wealth of child-friendly attractions, starting with the Skansen Open Air Museum. This living history museum features a zoo and enough activities to keep children entertained from 10am to 4pm. She also highlighted the Vasa Museum, home to the world's only preserved 17th-century ship, which includes a children's trail to keep young visitors engaged.
Another must-visit is the Junibacken Museum, an immersive story world dedicated to Astrid Lindgren, author of Pippi Longstocking. Claire recommended the train ride through storylands, describing it as highly detailed and a favourite with her daughter. She also noted that Stockholm's metro stations are known for their art, making them an attraction in themselves.
Beyond paid attractions, the city offers excellent free options, including playgrounds like Vasa Park, which provides bikes and play accessories. Claire praised the food scene, noting that Swedish classics like meatballs and mashed potato, as well as the tradition of fika, are great for kids. She added that getting around the city is easy, making it an ideal family destination.
