Summer is nearly here, and millions of Britons are planning their holidays. Cruises offer a fantastic way to see the world, but knowing what you can and cannot bring on board is essential. Will Sarson, a travel expert at Riviera Travel, has shared five items you should leave behind to ensure a smooth trip.
First on the list is alcohol. While not completely banned, many cruise lines restrict passengers from bringing their own supply. Sarson explains: 'Often, travellers are limited to just one bottle of wine or champagne, with potential corkage fees for drinking in public areas.' He recommends leaving bottles at home and enjoying the drinks available on the ship and at ports.
Second, leave your clothes steamer or iron at home. 'Many cruise liners do not allow irons or steamers on board as they pose a fire hazard,' Sarson says. 'This item constantly catches people out.' He notes that many ships have irons or steamers available for guests to borrow.
Similarly, candles and incense are prohibited due to fire risks. These items will be confiscated immediately, so it's best to leave them behind. Fourth, CBD oil is forbidden because of its varying legality worldwide. Sarson states: 'While the product is 100% legal in the UK, that's not the case in certain cruise stop-off destinations.'
Finally, pets are generally not allowed on cruises. 'You'd be surprised at how many people try to bring their pets,' Sarson says. 'Domestic animals are typically not allowed due to allergy risks and health and safety concerns.' However, guide dogs are permitted for medical assistance. Pet owners should make alternative arrangements for their animals.
