Kath Cross and Stu Hall, from Cardiff, sold their possessions and bought a campervan to travel the world on a budget of £30 to £40 a day. The couple now live full-time in their 7.5-metre Mercedes Sprinter van, having driven as far as the Sahara over four years.
Kath, 49, a former single mother, said rising living costs and stagnant wages motivated the change. 'Everything revolved around staying afloat and we no longer wanted a life where we were just existing,' she explained. After her daughters left home, she sold her belongings on Facebook Marketplace and kept only 1,000 books and 30 pieces of art in storage.
The couple, who met through a walking club, have travelled through 14 countries including France, Spain, Morocco, and Greece. They work as travel content creators under the name Vanavigation. Despite rising fuel prices, they continue their journey by driving slower.
In Morocco's Atlas Mountains, they helped a man whose car broke down in the snow, and were welcomed by his family and village. They also participated in a post-earthquake community project rebuilding a water reservoir near Imlil.
Kath said her daughters, aged 22 and 30, were supportive. 'I wanted to show them you can make your own life,' she said. The couple now plan to travel further and for longer, with Morocco remaining their favourite destination.
