The historic city of Chichester in West Sussex has been named among Expedia's top destinations for 2027, joining holiday hotspots in Japan, Italy, Australia and the United States on the travel company's list of Destinations of the Year.
While cities like Bath, York and Oxford often attract the most attention, the much smaller south coast city has seen travel interest rise by 30 per cent, according to Expedia's latest findings.
Historic Attractions and Roman Heritage
Chichester is known for its historic streets, independent shops and Roman heritage. One of its best-known landmarks is Chichester Cathedral, which dates back to 1075 and stands in the city centre.
Visitors can also explore Fishbourne Roman Palace, home to some of Britain's impressive Roman mosaics, or head to the nearby Weald and Downland Living Museum.
Coastal Scenery and Nearby Villages
The city is around seven miles from West Wittering Beach, known for its sandy coastline, colourful beach huts and views across the water. The surrounding area has also attracted famous residents, including Rolling Stones guitarist Keith Richards and actress Kate Winslet.
Those wanting somewhere quieter can explore Chichester Harbour, with its sailing boats, waterside walks and places to stop for lunch. There's also the nearby village of Bosham, a pretty waterfront spot with historic cottages and connections to the Bayeux Tapestry.
Easy Access from London
For anyone travelling from London, Chichester is relatively easy to reach, with direct trains from Victoria taking around an hour and a half.
The city was one of ten destinations included in Expedia's 2027 list, alongside Perugia in Italy, Busan in South Korea and Niagara-on-the-Lake in Canada.
