Europe's quietest beach: Cala Benirrás named top autumn escape
Cala Benirrás: Europe's quietest autumn beach escape

Wizz Air has identified Cala Benirrás on Ibiza's northern coast as one of Europe's finest off-the-beaten-track coastal spots for the shoulder season, praising its tranquillity. The secluded beach offers a peaceful retreat with sunsets, informal drumming, and a relaxed atmosphere, ideal for an autumn escape.

Research ranks beaches by space per person

The airline conducted comprehensive research of beaches across more than 50 European nations, evaluating visitor numbers, typical temperatures, and hours of daylight for September, October, and November. By measuring available beach area per person, Wizz Air compiled rankings according to the space on offer for unwinding and enjoying late-season sunshine.

While Ibiza is primarily known for its vibrant club scene and hectic tourist calendar, Cala Benirrás delivers authentic Balearic appeal without the bustling atmosphere found elsewhere on the island. Located along the northwest shoreline, it has emerged as one of Ibiza's most celebrated sunset locations after years of being a jealously protected secret among locals.

A hidden gem with bohemian charm

Reached via a leisurely stroll through winding hills and valleys, the beach boasts spectacular views across the water towards a striking rock formation called Cap Bernat, known locally as 'the finger of God'. The pristine waters are perfect for snorkelling enthusiasts, while the secluded cove remains away from well-trodden tourist routes.

For a genuine taste of Ibiza, visitors can explore a small hippy market operating daily except Wednesdays and Thursdays. As daylight fades, a handful of locals gather for casual drumming sessions, channelling the bohemian spirit of bygone days. Throughout summer, these spontaneous performances attract people from all corners of the island, but as autumn arrives, the gatherings become more intimate affairs.

Visitor praise and practical details

Tripadvisor user Debra H. called it the "best beach on Ibiza, especially in October", adding: "It's not just a beach for a day trip or the Sunday drumming it's a place to come early in the morning and get to know. We really liked Elements cafe, nice food, sitting and chilling on the sofa with music. Lovely family friendly, and I love the rock there like a giant goddess. Highly recommend. Most favourite beach in Europe."

Another late-season visitor, Emily S, described it as a "beautiful bohemian feeling beach, perfect place for sunset", noting: "We visited Ibiza at the end of October. End of season, so this beach was lovely. Not too busy, with a relaxed, friendly, safe feel. Beautiful sheltered cove with stunning views out to sea, and amazing clear waters with lots of fish."

Ibiza enjoys average temperatures of approximately 23°C (73°F) throughout October and November. Cala Benirrás sits just a 10-minute bus journey from the nearby town of Port De San Miguel, which boasts hotels, villas, and an extensive range of amenities.
