British Couple Drown at Shellharbour Beach in Australia

A married British couple in their 60s have tragically drowned at a beach on the New South Wales coast in Australia. The incident occurred on Wednesday, March 11, at Shellharbour Beach in Shell Cove, approximately two hours south of Sydney.

Emergency services were called shortly after 11am following reports of two swimmers struggling in the water. Beachgoers pulled the 66-year-old man and 64-year-old woman to shore, and off-duty nurses performed CPR until paramedics arrived.

NSW Ambulance paramedics continued resuscitation efforts, but the couple could not be revived and were pronounced dead at the scene. Family members of the couple were present at the beach.

NSW Police commended the efforts of two off-duty female nurses and a young man who assisted. A police spokesperson said: "This is a tragic incident and our heart goes out to the family."
