A British man has died in Greece after collapsing at his wife's bedside in a hospital. The 55-year-old tourist was on holiday with his wife in Kalavryta, in the Peloponnese region, when she fell ill.
The man drove his wife to Kalavryta Hospital on Wednesday afternoon, June 3, where she received first aid. While at her bedside, he suddenly collapsed, and medical staff immediately performed CPR. Despite their efforts, he was declared dead minutes later, according to local media.
The cause of death has not yet been established. An autopsy is expected in the coming days, and police in Kalavryta have launched a preliminary investigation. The man's wife has since been discharged from hospital after brief treatment.
A Foreign Office spokesperson said: “We are supporting the family of a British man who has died in Greece and are in contact with the local authorities.” The incident follows the death of a 66-year-old British woman on the island of Zante last month.
