A British family's holiday has ended in tragedy after a father was found dead in the water during a boat trip near Marmaris, Turkey. John Nelson, 47, from Arbroath, Scotland, was on vacation with his son Josh and Josh's girlfriend Sharon Stuart when he died on July 31 off the coast of Turnuc.
Sailors from other boats pulled Mr Nelson from the water and handed him over to paramedics and the Coastguard, but he could not be revived. Local police have launched an investigation into the incident.
Paying tribute online, Josh said: 'While we were away on a family holiday, my dad's life was tragically taken in an accident at sea. It’s a loss that has shaken my whole world. My dad was my role model, my biggest supporter and my best friend.'
A fundraiser has been set up to help cover funeral costs. Josh added: 'My family and I are now facing the difficult task of arranging the funeral and covering the costs. Any donation would mean the world to us.'
A Foreign Office spokesperson said: 'We have not been approached for assistance on this case, but our staff stand ready to assist British nationals overseas 24/7.' The funeral will take place at Parkgrove Crematorium, near Friockheim, on August 27.
