A British tourist has died after falling 20ft from a hotel balcony in Lanzarote, with another man in critical condition after the railing reportedly gave way.
The incident occurred in the early hours of Saturday morning in the resort town of Costa Teguise. Local media reports that the two men, aged 56 and 54, fell when the balcony railing collapsed at around 1.30am.
The 56-year-old died at the scene, while the 54-year-old was taken to the intensive care unit of Doctor José Molina Orosa hospital, where he remains in critical condition.
Spain's Civil Guard has launched an investigation into the maintenance of the railing and the hotel's security. It is not yet known if the two men were friends or relatives, and the hotel's name has not been released.
