Blanchland, a small Northumberland village with a County Durham postcode, has been named among the top 10 UK places for a summer getaway by experts at Custom Size Beds. The village ranked 9th in the list, which considered factors like seclusion, dark sky visibility, natural beauty and proximity to campsites.
Unique history and attractions
With a population of less than 130, Blanchland sits within the North Pennines Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty on the River Derwent. The village is described as 'picture perfect' and a place that 'takes you back to a time before tablets, televisions and phones.' It also boasts The Lord Crewe Arms, a pub dating back to the 12th century that once hosted Hollywood legend Clint Eastwood, who, according to locals, was too tall for the bar.
