Alexandra Saper, a travel influencer from the US, has criticised UK and Indonesian authorities for failing to take her stalking ordeal seriously. Her stalker, Rob Keating, 39, was found guilty of stalking earlier this year after travelling to her home in Bali and threatening to kidnap her.
Saper said she endured 'two and a half years of hell' during which police told her to quit social media and she was forced to 'hide, run and relentlessly follow up with police'. Keating subjected her to incessant messages sharing sexual fantasies and threats, including that he would 'go Fifty Shades of Grey' on her and abduct her.
Keating was arrested after returning to the UK with rope in his luggage. Jurors at Portsmouth Crown Court found him guilty of stalking. Saper said her case was transferred between more than a dozen police officers and departments, with evidence lost multiple times, causing repeated delays.
She said: 'It was only after two and a half years of this hell, when he posted flights to return to Bali, photos and videos of me, and the words "Round Two" that he was finally charged with stalking.' Saper added that the world is 'not set up for female victims and minorities to be listened to and believed'.
Detective Inspector Katt Green of Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary said inquiries involved liaising with other forces and supporting a victim abroad, noting a prolonged period in 2024 when all parties were outside the UK limited inquiries. Keating is due to be sentenced on 9 October.
