Bulgarian Resort with £1 Beers Crowned Europe's Most Affordable Ski Destination
£1 Beer Resort Named Europe's Cheapest Ski Spot

easyJet has unveiled its inaugural Cheap Ski Index, a comprehensive guide designed to help winter sports enthusiasts discover the most cost-effective destinations across Europe. The index meticulously compares average prices for essential ski holiday components, including lift passes, equipment hire, accommodation, transport, and even the price of a refreshing beer after a day on the slopes.

Bansko Tops the Rankings for Budget Skiers

Securing the number one position is Bansko, Bulgaria. Nestled at the foot of the majestic Pirin Mountains and just a two-hour journey from the capital Sofia, this resort has been officially recognised as the continent's most affordable ski destination. For those watching their wallets, Bansko offers remarkably low daily costs: slope access for under £50, equipment rental for approximately £15, and accommodation averaging around £45 per night. The standout feature, however, is the opportunity to enjoy a beer for just £1, highlighting its exceptional value.

European Gems Offering Fantastic Value

The index highlights a diverse range of resorts that provide excellent value without compromising on the ski experience. In second place is Białka Tatrzańska, Poland, located south of Kraków. This resort is praised for its relaxed vibe and is particularly recommended for beginners, families, and larger groups seeking a friendly and economical option.

Completing the podium in third is Borovets, another Bulgarian favourite. As the country's oldest ski resort, it boasts 58 kilometres of slopes across three distinct zones in the Rila Mountains, catering especially well to intermediate skiers with its wide, well-groomed runs.

Affordable Options Across the Alps and Beyond

The list continues with several other noteworthy destinations. Italy's Bardonecchia, which hosted events during the 2006 Winter Olympics, offers scenic but often-overlooked slopes like Colomion and Les Arnauds, with daily costs remaining below £50. The Andorran resort of Pal-Arinsal, accessible via flights to Barcelona or Toulouse, combines affordable après-ski with a taste of Spanish tapas and varied terrain suitable for all levels.

Further Italian entries include Sauze d'Oulx, renowned for its sunny disposition and lively atmosphere in the Via Lattea (Milky Way) ski area, and Sestriere. For those dreaming of a classic Alpine experience, French resorts Les Deux Alpes and Morzine also feature, offering authentic charm at competitive daily rates of around £80.

Expert Insight on Last-Minute Getaways

Kevin Doyle, easyJet's UK country manager, commented on the timing of the report's release. "With a flurry of snow set to dust Europe in the coming weeks, last-minute ski getaways are sure to be top of mind for many," he said. "Our new index spotlights just some of the resorts where equipment hire, hotels and hospitality can be found for fantastic value."

He emphasised the accessibility of these destinations, noting, "Direct flights from 13 airports across the UK make all ten destinations easily accessible, offering more choice and connectivity for snow sports lovers looking to discover some of Europe's best hidden-gem resorts."
