Tesla has expanded its Model Y lineup in the United Kingdom with the introduction of a new seven-seat configuration, designed specifically to cater to family-oriented buyers. This latest version builds upon the success of the Model Y, which currently holds the title of the UK's best-selling electric vehicle, by adding two extra seats for increased passenger capacity.
Pricing and Specifications
The seven-seat option is exclusively available on the Model Y Premium Long Range All-Wheel Drive variant. It commands a premium of £2,500 over the standard five-seater, bringing the total starting price to £54,490. Tesla quotes an impressive maximum range of up to 372 miles on a single charge, ensuring long-distance capability for family trips.
Design and Flexibility
At the core of this update are two forward-facing chairs in the third row, which are engineered to fold flat into the floor when not in use. This design allows the car to seamlessly transition between carrying up to seven occupants and maximizing cargo space. Tesla emphasizes that this layout maintains what it describes as segment-leading cargo capacity, providing practical flexibility for diverse needs.
Access to the third row is facilitated by a sliding and folding second row, operated via buttons on the seatbacks to simplify entry and exit. Even with all seven seats in place, Tesla claims there is sufficient room for storage, including space for two carry-on suitcases in the boot and two larger bags in the front storage area.
Interior Features and Comfort
Inside, the seven-seat Model Y retains the premium features introduced in the 2025 lineup. The front cabin is dominated by a 16-inch central touchscreen running Tesla's latest in-house software, while heated and ventilated front seats automatically adjust with the climate control system for optimal comfort.
Passengers in the second row benefit from an eight-inch screen dedicated to entertainment, gaming, and climate controls, with Bluetooth connectivity enabling the use of wireless headphones. This feature is aimed at enhancing long-distance comfort, particularly for families travelling with children.
Those seated in the third row are equipped with their own USB-C charging ports, and Tesla highlights the positioning of these seats beneath the rear glass to ensure adequate headroom. Additional amenities include acoustic glass to reduce cabin noise, revised suspension hardware and tuning, a panoramic glass roof, and a 15-speaker audio system with a subwoofer.
Market Context and Availability
This new seven-seater follows recent expansions to the Model Y range, including the lower-cost Rear-Wheel Drive version priced at £41,990 and the high-performance Model Y Performance variant. These additions have broadened the car's appeal across different buyer segments, from budget-conscious consumers to performance enthusiasts.
Order books for the Model Y Premium Long Range All-Wheel Drive seven-seater are now open, with deliveries scheduled to commence from May. The vehicle comes standard with Tesla's Autopilot driver assistance technology and is hardware-ready for Full Self-Driving (Supervised), which Tesla states will be enabled remotely once approved by UK regulatory authorities.
With total load capacity reaching up to 2,094 litres, including 381 litres behind the third row and an additional 116 litres under the bonnet, this model offers versatile storage options. Folding the rearmost seats increases boot space to 894 litres, allowing buyers to prioritize either passengers or luggage based on their specific journey requirements.
