Swansea City Partners with Jamestown Analytics

Swansea City have announced a partnership with Jamestown Analytics, a world leader in data-led player recruitment. The company has worked with several European clubs and is an offshoot of Tony Bloom's Starlizard business, though not owned by him.

Proven Track Record

Jamestown is widely credited with playing an instrumental role in Brighton and Hove Albion's rise to the Premier League and their remarkable transfer success. Union Saint-Gilloise became champions of Belgium for the first time in 90 years under Jamestown's guidance, while their involvement with Italian side Como coincided with a historic run to the Champions League.

Most recently, their data modelling is believed to have been key in turning Heart of Midlothian into title contenders in Scotland, with the Edinburgh side narrowly missing out on the final day to Celtic. There is a real expectation that they may now break the duopoly of the Old Firm on Scottish football.

Impact on Swansea

Data has been a key part of Swansea's efforts in the transfer market, and the club hope Jamestown's involvement can help take their strategy to another level. Swansea City chief executive Tom Gorringe said: “This partnership is a real coup for the club. Jamestown are widely regarded as leaders in data led player recruitment, and we have seen the success that many of their partner clubs have achieved over recent times. Jamestown only works with an exclusive list of clubs and we are honoured to now join that group.”

Behind-the-Scenes Reshuffle

The move follows a reshuffle of personnel behind the scenes. Ben Stevens has taken on the role of sporting director after leaving Crystal Palace, while Jay Lefevre has been promoted to head of recruitment after previously serving as chief scout. Commenting on the partnership, Stevens revealed that the chance to work with Jamestown was a partial motivator in his decision to join the club. He said: "From my initial conversations with the club I was excited about the plans and this partnership is a big part of that. I have always been data-focused when it comes to decision making, and so having access to this industry-leading system provides us with great opportunities for the future."

Lefevre added: "I am really looking forward to working with Jamestown Analytics as a world leader in their field with a proven track record for player identification and recruitment. As a club we are always looking for ways in which we can improve, and we feel that this partnership gives us an extra edge."
