Thousands of Spotify users across the UK have been affected by a global outage, with more than 21,000 reports of the streaming service not working. According to Down Detector, the issues began just after 1pm on Wednesday, with the majority of problems related to the app (66%), followed by website issues (18%) and audio streaming problems (16%).
The outage appears to be concentrated in the UK, with major cities such as London, Manchester, Leeds and Glasgow worst affected. However, users in other countries including Spain, the Netherlands, Belgium, Poland and the Philippines have also reported difficulties. In the United States, a brief spike of 829 reports was recorded but quickly subsided.
Spotify acknowledged the issue on its status page, stating: 'We're seeing reports from users that the app isn't loading properly or that they're experiencing playback issues. Others report that they're having issues accessing the Support site. This seems to happen both on mobile and desktop devices.' The company added that its technical team is investigating the problem.
Users took to social media and Down Detector to complain, with one saying: 'Spotify is not responding, opens but not uploading albums, only playlists showing but they are not playing either.' Another wrote: 'I can't play music on my phone but I can on my laptop.' Some reported that playlists appeared empty or that audio cut out entirely.
As of two hours after the initial spike, thousands of users were still affected. Spotify's X account, Spotify Status, posted: 'We’re aware of some issues right now and are checking them out!' The company has not yet provided an estimated time for a fix.
