Solar Security Camera 'Fantastic' and Beats Ring on Price
Solar Security Camera 'Fantastic', Beats Ring on Price

The Septekon 2K Solar Security Camera on Amazon has been praised as 'fantastic' by shoppers and undercuts popular options such as Ring's doorbell cameras. Priced at £35.99, down from £49.98 in a Limited Prime deal, the wire-free device is powered by a rechargeable battery and solar panel, meaning it can keep running with sufficient sunlight without needing to be regularly connected to a power source.

Features and Design

The camera records in 2K 3MP resolution and features both infrared and white lights for colour night vision, allowing buyers to see what's happening in low light conditions. The spotlight does need to be manually activated for colour night vision.

It can rotate 345 degrees horizontally and 90 degrees vertically, giving it a wide viewing range, while its IP66 waterproof rating means it's designed to withstand rain, snow and hot weather. A PIR motion sensor detects movement and can send instant notifications when human activity is detected.

Connectivity and Storage

The camera can record video and audio and activate its siren and spotlight to help deter unwanted visitors. It connects to homes through 2.4GHz Wi-Fi (5GHz isn't supported) and offers two storage options for recorded events, while the wire-free design makes installation simpler. It is available in both black and white (£37.99, down from £39.99).

Shopper Reviews

The Septekon 2K Solar Security Camera has been rated a high 4.3 out of 5 stars on Amazon. One person said, “It's solar, so no charging. Fantastic product.”

Another added: “Great camera. A very impressive solar panel keeps the camera charged to 100%. Image quality is really good, and I love the feature that the camera follows an object or person that it captures in the frame. The app is easy to use and works well.”

A third wrote as part of a longer review: “I have been trialling this for about a month. So good that the family bought another two. Simple to use and set up.” This person removed a star, however, and said: “Works well. Easy to fix up. Good picture. Great to be able to adjust via the phone. Shame doesn’t link to Alexa. The instructions were small and hard to read.”

Another wrote: “Great quality image and product. Solar and batteries are working well so far. The only issue is that the app can freeze, and selecting app icons often requires a number of attempts.”

An alternative option on Amazon is the Ring Battery Video Doorbell for £44.99, down from £79.99.
