The Skoda Peaq has broken the electric SUV distance record, covering 582 miles on a single charge. The new flagship SUV completed the record-breaking trip in just over 24 hours, travelling from Mladá Boleslav in Czechia to the Netherlands without recharging.
Record-breaking journey details
The journey massively exceeded the Peaq's homologated WLTP range, with the car only expected to go 402 miles. En-route, the electric SUV averaged just 9.2 kWh/100 km, as it edged the previous record set by American brand Polestar.
The previous record was held by the Polestar 3 Long Range Single Motor, which covered 581.3 miles on an almost 23-hour drive. The journey was completed in a production rear-wheel drive Skoda Peaq 90 fitted with a 91 kWh traction battery and 19-inch wheels with standard low-rolling-resistance tyres.
Driver and company comments
Jakub Krs, one of the drivers on the journey, said: “The aim was to demonstrate what the technology can achieve when pushed to its limits. To maximise the range, we selected the most suitable route and, of course, adapted our driving style accordingly.”
Marek Jež, Head of the Peaq model series, said: “In everyday use, customers are unlikely to drive the car this way. Instead, they will take advantage of everything the Peaq has to offer in terms of driving dynamics, onboard infotainment and comfort.”
Comparison with Range Rover Electric
The record comes just days after Jaguar Land Rover unveiled its first-ever EV, the Range Rover Electric. In comparison, the Range Rover will only handle a range of around 372 miles despite costing up to £100,000 more.
The Peaq has a starting price of £51,980 for the entry-level model, with prices rising to £60,380 for a top-tier model. The new Range Rover Electric will have a starting price of £154,070. The Peaq is also a seven-seater model, while the Range Rover Electric will remain a five-seater car for now.
Skoda has explained that customer response to the new design has been very positive so far, with the company receiving more than 10,000 orders from buyers.
