Samsung has lifted the lid on three new folding phones at its Galaxy Unpacked event in London today, debuting the Galaxy Z Flip8, Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra and brand new Galaxy Z Fold8. Confusingly, the Z Fold8 Ultra is the same shape as last year’s Z Fold7, a thin and tall design we’ve become used to in Samsung’s book-style foldables. The Z Fold8 takes more of a passport shape, with wider and shorter dimensions that recall the original Pixel Fold.
Pricing and availability
Samsung is the market leader for foldables in the UK, but these new devices don’t come cheap. The least expensive is the flip phone Z Flip8, which costs a hefty £1,149. That’s £100 more than the Z Flip7 cost last year. It means the Z Fold8 Ultra starts at £1,899, a £150 increase on the Z Fold7. The all-new Galaxy Z Fold8 starts at £1,699.
All pre-orders made at the time of writing will ship to buyers on August 3, 2026.
Best contract deals
Starting with Sky Mobile, the Galaxy Flip8 here starts at £38 a month, and the bigger Galaxy Z Fold8 begins at £57 a month. A standout perk currently is all new pre-order shoppers will be able to claim a wearable for free as the Galaxy Watch9 is thrown in for no extra.
Three is offering the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip8 for a total of £46.50 per month and £40 upfront. This is for a 36-month device repayment plan of £31.50 per month plus a 24-month commitment to a 15GB data SIM. The device repayment totals £1,134 over three years, while the cost of the data plan rises by £1.90 each April.
A cheaper option is with Mobiles.co.uk, which is offering the Z Flip 8 for £38.99 per month and £29 upfront with a whopping 100GB mobile data tariff on iD Mobile. The monthly cost will rise to £40.79 from 1st April 2027 and then to £42.59 from 1st April 2028, but it’s only a 24-month contract, so you’ll pay off the cost of the phone sooner and pay less overall than the Three contract.
Meanwhile, Vodafone says buyers can get the Z Flip8 for £25.67 per month and £40 upfront - but that’s only when they trade in an eligible device.
Z Fold8 deals
Mobiles.co.uk also has a great price on the new, wider Z Fold8, at least compared to other retailers. It’s available with the same 100GB tariff on iD Mobile for £56.99 per month (subject to price rises) and an upfront cost of £69. It’s a 24-month contract.
That’s a better deal than Tesco Mobile, which lets customers pre-order the Z Fold 8 for the reduced rate of £59.99 per month (usually £64.99) if they have a Tesco Clubcard. That price nets 12GB data, which is less than Mobiles.co.uk, and buyers are in a 36-month contract, meaning they’ll pay more than £2,100 over the course of six years.
Should shoppers have an eligible device to trade in, Vodafone will offer the Z Fold 8 from £27.34 per month with a £50 upfront payment, but again, only the very latest phones will offer such a large reduction.
If you want to pay over 24 months on contract for the Z Fold 8, EE will charge you a sky-high £102.31 per month when you pay £30 upfront, and that only gets you 5GB data. EE always charges among the highest prices for new smartphones, but this deal does at least get buyers the premium Galaxy Buds 4 Pro earbuds for £1 extra.
Design highlights
Highlighting the innovative design, Dave highlighted the new features live from the event. He said: "This shorter and wider styling might look a little strange at first, but once the phone is unfolded, it makes a lot more sense. That’s because users get an expansive 7.6-inch screen that looks and feels a lot more like a traditional tablet."
