Royal Mail has announced a change to how customers receive missed-delivery notifications, introducing a new design for its 'Something for you' cards that includes a QR code for easier parcel tracking.
New card features QR code
The postal service shared a video on social media highlighting the upgrade. The little red cards, commonly posted through the letterbox, now feature a QR code that customers can scan to access tracking information directly.
In a Facebook post, Royal Mail said: "We've revitalised our Something for you delivery cards – with a fresh new look and a clever upgrade. They now come with an easy to scan QR code – because even the most charming handwriting deserves a digital sidekick. The new card is simpler, faster, and a more secure way to stay in control of your missed deliveries."
How the QR code works
A Royal Mail employee explained in the video that scanning the code takes customers to a tracking page via a link beginning with RYML.me. The unique nine-digit tracking code is already filled in, and customers only need to add their delivery postcode as confirmation.
The tracker displays the latest location and additional details, such as safe-place photos. Customers can also manually enter the nine-digit code on the Royal Mail website or app to check updates.
Additional options and scam warning
If a parcel has been returned to the delivery office, customers can see who it is addressed to, so they can bring the correct ID when collecting. Redelivery can also be arranged.
The employee emphasised that Royal Mail will never ask for payment or extra information to locate or track items. Customers are advised to visit the Royal Mail website for information on the latest scams. The Post Office also warns about fraudulent emails or texts claiming to be from Royal Mail that request payment for unsent items.
