Hundreds of Scots are unable to log into the Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS) banking app after it went down on the morning of October 5. Reports began at 10:30am, with 181 logged on Downdector, and 83 per cent of users said they were experiencing problems with the app.
Outage hotspots across Scotland
Hotspots for reports have risen in Glasgow and Edinburgh, with many Scots in Aberdeen also reporting issues. As a result of the outage, customers cannot access their bank details or make bank transfers through the app.
RBS statement and service update
RBS has issued a statement on the mobile app that appears when customers try to log in, advising them to close the app and try again, and urging them to check the service status page. The alert reads: "We're sorry, some kind of error has occurred when trying to establish a connection between your devices and ourselves. Please close the app and try again."
Sharing an update on their service page, RBS said they are working to fix the issue as fast as possible and will get customers back online at the earliest convenience. The mobile app service disruption reads: "Customers are having trouble accessing our mobile app. We're working to fix this as fast as possible. We’re really sorry and will make sure that customers affected won’t be out of pocket."
Alternative banking options
Customers will still be able to use digital banking with their customer number, security number and password, though RBS notes that some features may be affected by the issue. Mortgage customers can still access their Manage Your Mortgage features through Digital Banking, available via a computer browser, and payments can also be made using debit or credit cards.
