Amazon Prime Day has brought a rare discount on Sony's PlayStation 5, slashing the console's price by 16%. The deal, available from June 23 to June 26, knocks roughly £90 off the standard 1TB model, bringing it down to £479 from £569.99. This saving directly offsets the price increase Sony implemented earlier this year.
Limited Availability and Prime Requirements
The offer is exclusively for Amazon Prime subscribers, but non-members can sign up for a free 30-day trial to access the deal and cancel before the trial ends. However, time is of the essence: as of writing, more than 70% of the available deals have already been claimed. Once fully claimed, shoppers will have to pay Sony's full asking price.
Storage and Accessory Deals
The discounted PS5 is the lower-storage 1TB version, but Amazon Prime Day also features storage upgrade options. The Seagate Game Drive for PS5, a 5TB external hard drive officially licensed for the console, is reduced by nearly a third to £143.48 (down from over £200). It includes two weeks of PS Plus, though it cannot run PS5 titles directly; games must be transferred to the internal SSD. For those needing less space, the 2TB version is available for £95.99, a 32% reduction from £141.99.
Game and Controller Offers
Assassin's Creed Shadows Limited Edition is priced at £27.99, making it a suitable companion for new PS5 owners. Xbox players are also catered for: the official Xbox wireless controller (black) is reduced by 20% to £39.99, including a 9ft USB-C cable. Other color variants are similarly discounted at £52.99. The Xbox Elite Wireless Controller 2 (black) has a 30% discount, dropping from £169.99 to £118.70. The Turtle Beach Stealth 600 wireless headset is also marked down.
Timing with GTA 6 Pre-Orders
The PS5 discount coincides with the launch of Grand Theft Auto 6 pre-orders, with the game expected for release in November. According to the Express, this timing makes it an ideal opportunity for gamers to gear up for the highly anticipated title.
