No New Halo Games in Development After Campaign Evolved, Leaker Claims
No New Halo Games in Development, Leaker Claims

According to trusted leaker Rebs Gaming, Halo Studios currently has no mainline Halo games in full development after the upcoming release of Halo: Campaign Evolved. The revelation has sparked concern among fans about the franchise's future, as Microsoft's flagship series struggles to regain its former prominence.

Development Challenges and Cancelled Projects

In a video published July 2026, Rebs Gaming detailed that Halo Studios originally planned to launch three games over three years: Halo: Campaign Evolved, a standalone multiplayer project codenamed Ekur, and a new campaign title. However, Ekur—initially an extraction shooter before being reworked into a battle royale without classic multiplayer modes—was cancelled in 2025 to focus on Campaign Evolved. The new campaign project never materialized.

Rebs Gaming stated that developing multiple Halo projects simultaneously "proved to be too difficult for leadership." As a result, the studio "doesn't have any other mainline campaign or multiplayer project in full development," with only "early concepts for new projects." He added that "development teams are now trying to hurry up on creating the vision and concepts for the next main Halo game."

Post-Launch Uncertainty and Potential Layoffs

Halo: Campaign Evolved, a remake of the original Halo: Combat Evolved in Unreal Engine 5, is set to release on July 28, 2026. Rebs Gaming reported internal "uncertainty" around rumoured remakes of Halo 2 and 3, with staff "concerned" about possible layoffs after launch. The team is reportedly "exploring possible DLC" for Campaign Evolved to fill the gap. A "new Halo experience" in early development could be announced at Halo Fest in December, but Rebs Gaming described this as a "best case scenario."

Impact on Xbox's Strategy

The lack of new Halo titles comes at a critical time for Xbox, which is preparing for the launch of Project Helix. Xbox CEO Asha Sharma is reportedly prioritising Halo as part of a broader "reset," but the leaker's claims suggest a sequel to Halo Infinite is at least three years away. The franchise has been hampered by poor management since Halo Infinite's 2021 release, which suffered from inadequate post-launch support.

Multiplatform Future for Halo?

Halo: Campaign Evolved is confirmed for multiplatform release, including PlayStation 5. Xbox's chief strategy officer Matthew Ball told GamesRadar that "large live service titles" will be multiplatform going forward. However, chief content officer Matt Booty cautioned against fixating on single-player exclusivity, stating, "I wouldn't overly fixate on single-player... it certainly isn't something that's carved in stone." This suggests Xbox's exclusive strategy remains fluid, though no further Halo multiplatform releases appear imminent.
