Newcastle United's transfer window is expected to 'heat up' soon, according to former Everton chief executive Keith Wyness. The Magpies have already completed several deals but face a pivotal summer after losing Anthony Gordon and Sandro Tonali.
Wyness expects busy period
Wyness, who now runs a football consultancy, told Football Insider: "Newcastle have got some serious issues right now. They've got to bring in some marquee players. They know it. They've lost some of their talismen and this is really another difficult window for Newcastle. Now the World Cup's finished though, I do expect their window to heat up considerably."
He added: "I think this week could be one of the busiest weeks of the transfer window. Maybe not in actual announcements but in terms of the work being done behind the scenes because that's how it works."
Willock talks ongoing
Newcastle are reportedly still in talks with Besiktas over the transfer of Joe Willock, according to TEAMtalk. The midfielder is in the final year of his contract and has been informed that a new deal is not part of the club's plans. The 26-year-old is said to be keen on the move.
Chronicle Live commented: "It is time for Willock to move on and Newcastle must do their best to bring in a reasonable fee for the 26-year-old rather than lose him for free in 12 months."
Academy deal completed
Newcastle have completed the signing of 16-year-old Kyle Healy-Matthews from West Ham, according to Fabrizio Romano. The youngster will join as a first-year scholar and is likely to be handed a professional deal once he turns 17. ChronicleLive understands that Newcastle are set to make two or three more Academy signings this summer.
Chronicle Live noted: "Recent seasons have seen the club place greater emphasis on improving their academy and that continues to be the case."
Bazoumana Toure, Sean Steur and Ewen Jaouen have already arrived, and Monaco's Aladji Bamba is expected to follow. However, with proven talent being replaced by Premier League rookies, there is anticipation over the next month in the transfer market.
