Microsoft has confirmed the launch of two new Surface laptops, the Surface Pro 12-inch and Surface Laptop 13-inch, both available now to pre-order. The devices come with the latest Snapdragon X2 Plus processor, promising significant performance and efficiency upgrades for Windows 11 users.
Performance and battery improvements
The new chip delivers a 17 percent uplift in Office productivity tasks and a 60 percent boost in graphics performance. Microsoft also claims the Surface Laptop will last over 20 hours on a single charge, thanks to the processor's efficiency.
The Surface Laptop 13-inch features a bright display, a premium aluminium chassis, and a lightweight design suitable for carrying in a backpack. For those seeking portability, the Surface Pro 12-inch tablet offers a thin and lightweight build with a display that is 25 percent brighter than its predecessor.
New AI-powered features
The Surface Pro 12-inch introduces Microsoft Ink Canvas, an AI-powered, pen-first experience for sketching, annotating, generating images, and summarising text directly on the canvas. A detachable keyboard and Surface Slim Pen are included for note-taking and drawing.
Microsoft highlighted the devices' versatility: "Surface Pro 12-inch and Surface Laptop 13-inch are two of our most versatile Surface devices, designed to deliver the performance and battery life people need in PCs they can comfortably carry all day." The company added that this generation brings up to 18 percent more efficient battery performance, over 60 percent faster graphics, and 95 percent faster on-device AI, all in the same lightweight design.
Pricing and accessories
US pricing has been announced: the Surface Pro 12-inch costs $1,149.99, and the Surface Laptop 13-inch is priced at $1,199. Microsoft also unveiled a new Surface Mouse, redesigned for comfort with a customisable action button for Copilot and shortcuts, plus haptic feedback. It starts at $79.99 and is available in Black and Platinum.
