MG has introduced its first ever seven-seat SUV, the MGS9 PHEV, a plug-in hybrid family vehicle offering an electric-only range of up to 62 miles. Priced from £34,205, the model marks the brand's entry into the large SUV segment in the UK.
The MGS9 PHEV employs MG's existing plug-in hybrid technology, combining a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine with a 24.7kWh battery. This setup allows for up to 62 miles of electric driving, potentially covering daily commutes and school runs without using petrol.
Competing directly with the Chery Tiggo 8, which offers a 56-mile electric range and a starting price of £33,545, the MGS9 prioritises practicality with three rows of seating for up to seven passengers. Folding the rear seats provides over 1,000 litres of luggage space, while 332 litres remain available with all seats in use.
David Allison, MG UK's director of product and planning, stated: “The launch of the MGS9 PHEV represents a significant milestone for MG, marking our entry into the seven-seat SUV segment.” He highlighted the vehicle's enhanced presence and versatility for modern families.
Standard equipment includes dual 12.3-inch HD screens, a 12-speaker Bose audio system, leather-style upholstery, a panoramic sunroof, and powered seats with heating, ventilation, and massage functions. The car also features tri-zone air conditioning and has earned a five-star Euro NCAP safety rating, along with up to 16 driver assistance technologies.
The MGS9 PHEV is available to order now, with full specifications expected later this month as first deliveries arrive at UK dealerships.
