Meta has unveiled new Ray-Ban Meta Audio glasses that remove the cameras found on previous models, addressing a key privacy concern. The audio-focused wearables feature speakers built into the arms, allowing users to make calls, listen to music, receive phone alerts, and interact with a smart AI assistant. They can also function similarly to a hearing aid, enhancing sounds and voices for clearer understanding.
Design and Battery Improvements
The glasses are charged via a carry case and offer up to 12 hours of battery life. Meta highlighted the popularity of audio features, stating: "Audio has been our most popular feature since day one, because our glasses give you high-quality sound without closing you off from the world around you." The company added: "Ray-Ban Meta Audio packs the power of earbuds and AI into our lightest, slimmest AI glasses yet, in iconic Ray-Ban style."
Available in 23 colours and lens combinations, the Ray-Ban Meta Audio comes in two styles: Clubmaster, a retro-inspired silhouette, and Burbank, a classic rectangle design. Both are compatible with a range of optical prescriptions. They are expected to go on sale soon, priced around £350.
New Gen 3 Ray-Ban and VR Glasses
Meta also announced Gen 3 Ray-Ban glasses featuring an improved camera, longer battery life of about 9 hours, and a lighter design for increased comfort. These capture content with Dolby Atmos audio, and a new 6-mic array cuts more than 90 percent of background noise for clear calls and voice commands. Frame styles launching soon include Wayfarer, Aviator, and Zena.
Additionally, Meta introduced the Meta VR Glasses, a wearable resembling large sunglasses with built-in 5K OLED screens, creating a fully interactive headset. Users can watch immersive 3D movies, view sports as if in a stadium, and access apps like YouTube and Prime Video. The device supports over 75 dedicated games at launch and connects to XBOX Cloud Gaming for hundreds of streamed titles.
Pricing and Availability
The Meta VR Glasses can link to a laptop for virtual monitors, are powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon Reality Elite processor, and offer around 3 hours of battery life. They feature hand-tracking and voice control via Meta AI, eliminating the need for controllers. The Meta VR Glasses are set to go on sale in Spring 2027, priced at $1,299.99, approximately £1,000.
