Manchester Airport Welcomes Breastfeeding, Advises on Packing

Manchester Airport has issued guidance for parents travelling with babies, confirming that breastfeeding is permitted throughout all terminal areas. The airport states it promotes breastfeeding across its entire site and does not restrict where it can take place.

Breastfeeding Facilities and Quiet Areas

Baby changing facilities are available in all three terminals, either inside or near ladies' toilets, and include chairs designed to make breastfeeding easier. For parents preferring privacy, the airport has dedicated quiet areas, particularly useful for those with sensory issues. These areas are signposted, and staff can assist in locating them.

Items to Pack in Hand Luggage

The airport recommends packing dummies, nappies, wet wipes, a change of baby clothes, and plastic bags for used nappies or soiled clothing. Breast milk can be carried in containers up to 2000ml, even if travelling without the baby. Formula milk, cow's milk, soya milk, sterilised water, baby food, and cooling gel packs are also allowed, but the baby must be travelling with you.

For young children, suggested items include favourite toys, books or puzzles, a travel pillow, wet wipes, and hard sweets to help with ear popping during take-off and landing.

Food and Milk Warming Services

Many airport restaurants and cafés will warm baby milk free of charge using hot water, avoiding microwaves due to their high power. Restaurants offering kids' meals and food warming facilities include Amber Alehouse, Pot Kettle Black, Starbucks, Apiary, Archies, Bridgewater Exchange, and San Carlo in Terminal 2, and Costa, Pork & Pickle, and The Nook in Terminal 3.
