Manchester United's transfer window is intensifying as manager Michael Carrick looks to strengthen his squad for the Premier League and Champions League. The Red Devils are set to finalise the signing of Brazilian midfielder Ederson from Atalanta, while also pursuing several other targets and managing player departures.
New Midfielder Arrives for Medical
Promising Colombian midfielder Cristian Orozco is flying to Manchester this weekend to undergo a medical and begin his integration into the club. United reached an agreement with Fortaleza CEIF last September, but the transfer could not be officially registered until Orozco turns 18 on July 13, according to the Mirror.
The 17-year-old, whose playing style has drawn comparisons to Chelsea's Moises Caicedo, is expected to initially join United's under-21 squad. However, given the club's participation in the Champions League, Carrick may rotate heavily in the Carabao Cup, offering Orozco a potential pathway to first-team action next season.
United 'Make Contact' with World Cup Star Felix Nmecha
Manchester United have reportedly reached out to Borussia Dortmund midfielder Felix Nmecha, who has impressed during the World Cup in North America. Sky Germany reports that United are aiming to outbid increasing competition for the 25-year-old German international.
Nmecha's contract with Dortmund runs for another four years and includes a £75.5 million buyout clause. Newcastle United are also interested but reportedly want to negotiate a lower fee, potentially opening the door for United to swoop in. A move to the Premier League appeals to Nmecha, the younger brother of Leeds United forward Lukas Nmecha. For now, his focus remains on the World Cup, where Germany face Paraguay in the last 32 after topping Group E.
Midfield Reinforcements and Departures
With Casemiro departing after his contract expired, United need additional midfield options. The club is reportedly in a tussle with Tottenham for West Ham's Mateus Fernandes, and have also been linked with Newcastle's Sandro Tonali. However, another target, Elliot Anderson, has agreed terms with Manchester City.
Regarding outgoings, goalkeeper Andre Onana is expected to extend his loan at Trabzonspor, with the Turkish club covering his wages and paying a loan fee. United are also looking to offload several other players as Carrick reshapes his squad.
