Man Utd star sends farewell message as Arsenal transfer nears

Habeeb Ogunneye has indicated he is ready to leave Manchester United and join Arsenal after posting a farewell message on Instagram. The 20-year-old full-back spent five years in the youth ranks at Old Trafford and is expected to move to north London on a free transfer.

Farewell post and reaction

Writing on Instagram, Ogunneye said: "Five years. What a journey. Forever grateful for the memories, the people and everything this club has given me. Time for the next chapter."

His post included a childhood photo of himself in a United training kit and another image of him walking out at Old Trafford. Among those who responded were former Arsenal youngster Chido Obi, who now plays for United, and Darren Fletcher's sons Jack and Tyler, who posted red hearts. Kai Rooney also sent his best wishes.

Background and loan spell

Ogunneye, a right-back, gained first-team experience while on loan at Newport County last season. He joined the League Two side in the summer and featured in 21 matches before being recalled in January.

The academy graduate has been named in several United first-team squads, including as a substitute for the FA Cup fifth-round tie against Nottingham Forest in 2024 and the semi-final victory over Coventry at Wembley.

Arsenal moves and medical

Ogunneye was reported to have undergone a medical earlier this week. His team-mate James Scanlon is also expected to make the same move this summer. Arsenal's new under-21s head coach, David Horseman, knows both players from his time as an academy coach at United.

Arsenal have also been linked with Igor Tyjon from Blackburn Rovers, with a reported deal worth an initial £1million plus £2m in add-ons. Tyjon is understood to have had a medical and posted a farewell on social media, though his post has since been deleted.
