Manchester United are not planning to make a move for left-back Jorge Salinas, despite the teenager seeing an expected deadline day transfer to Atletico Madrid collapse.
United have monitored the 19-year-old this summer as they search for left-back reinforcements but have so far decided against making a move, despite the attraction of a €16million (£13.7million) release clause.
Atletico deal falls through
Salinas was expected to join United's Champions League opponents Atletico Madrid on deadline day, but that deal now looks to be off. Diego Simeone's side are now reportedly targeting a loan signing of the experienced Lyon left-back Nicolas Tagliafico.
Racing Santander have already completed a deadline day swoop to sign 29-year-old Spanish left-back Aaron Martin from Genoa, which could still leave the door open for Salinas to depart.
United focus on short-term targets
Reports in Spain suggest Atletico are now looking at loan deals for a left-back, having failed to offload enough first-team players this summer. Wolves' Hugo Bueno is another potential target.
Despite the availability of Salinas, United are not expected to swoop in the final hours of the transfer window. Although he is a promising player, his senior experience amounts to just three La Liga games this season for Racing and 35 matches in Spain's second tier.
United have looked at left-back options in the final days of the transfer window, but their focus has been on short-term targets and a potential loan signing, with a view to reassessing the position next summer.
Lewis Hall had been their top target this summer, but Newcastle United had not shown any interest in selling the 21-year-old England international.
