Nottingham Forest defender Neco Williams is reportedly the subject of a transfer battle between Manchester United and Newcastle United, with the Wales international’s future at the City Ground uncertain.
Premier League Giants Circle Williams
According to the BBC, both Manchester United and Newcastle United are monitoring the 25-year-old full-back, who has three years remaining on his current contract. Aston Villa and Everton have also been previously linked with the player.
Williams joined Forest from Liverpool for £12 million in July 2022 and has since made over 150 appearances for the club. His performances last season earned him the club’s Player of the Season award.
Forest Confident of Retention
Despite the interest, Nottingham Forest are reportedly confident that Williams will agree to a new deal. The club is keen to offer him an improved contract to strengthen their position amid the transfer speculation.
Williams himself has expressed his affection for the club. “I do feel at home here,” he said. “It’s been four years now and next season’s going to be my fifth. I’ve enjoyed it. I am still enjoying it. So yeah, let’s see what happens.”
Player of the Season
Reflecting on winning the Player of the Season award, Williams added: “It’s a special feeling. I do want to thank the fans; they’ve sold out every home game and every away game across the country and across Europe. We appreciate that so much, not just me but my teammates, the staff, everyone. We feel the energy and the love in every single game. Football’s nothing without them. I’m honoured to win it. I want to thank all the fans who voted and who have been there from the first game of the season.”
Negotiations are ongoing, and while Forest are optimistic, the interest from top clubs could complicate the process. The coming weeks will be crucial in determining Williams’ next move.
