Man United to Assess New Colombian Signing Cristian Orozco at Carrington
Man United to Assess Colombian Teen Orozco at Carrington

Manchester United are set to complete the signing of exciting Colombian midfielder Cristian Orozco from Fortaleza CEIF next month. The 17-year-old will be assessed at the club's Carrington training complex after his arrival, with a development plan to be formulated for the upcoming season.

Adaptation Period Expected

It is likely that Orozco will remain with the club initially, as he requires time to settle into a new environment after moving from South America. This approach mirrors previous signings such as Seko Kone and Diego Leon, who each spent a season with the Under-21s after arriving from Mali and Paraguay respectively. In contrast, Enzo Kana-Biyik, who came from France and had experience in European football through Le Havre's academy, was immediately loaned to Ineos-owned Lausanne Sport.

Orozco is expected to need a similar period of adaptation as he adjusts to life in Manchester. United will provide English lessons to support his integration. However, a loan move next season has not been ruled out; the decision will be made after his initial assessment.

First-Team Potential

United believe Orozco has first-team potential. The teenager was included in 11 first-team squads for Fortaleza CEIF this season, making two appearances from the bench and two starts in Colombia's top flight. He was welcomed to Manchester in December, touring Carrington and Old Trafford, and even participated in training sessions with United's academy teams.

United have broadened their academy recruitment due to Brexit restrictions, which prohibit signing players from Europe. Recent acquisitions of high-potential young talents from abroad are viewed as low-risk, high-reward investments.
