Manchester United have withdrawn from the pursuit of Alex Scott after being priced out of a move for the midfielder. The Reds' valuation of £40 million contrasts sharply with the £70 million Bournemouth are demanding. Although United hold the 22-year-old in high regard, they are unwilling to pay a premium for a player yet to earn his first full England cap.

Arsenal, Manchester City and Tottenham have all registered an interest in the player, while Chelsea have reportedly seen a £64 million offer turned down. Scott has two years remaining on the contract he signed upon joining from Bristol City for £25 million in 2023.
United revisit £100 million target
With a deal for Scott appearing to have stalled, United are reportedly prepared to reignite their pursuit of Brighton's Carlos Baleba. United were linked with the Cameroon international last summer. Brighton had placed a £100 million valuation on Baleba, and it is thought that the conjecture surrounding his future may have played a part in his dip in form.
That does not appear to have deterred United, with Sky Sports reporting that the club are considering reviving their interest in the player. The report adds that United are yet to make fresh contact with Brighton and that the £100 million asking price would need to be reduced before they contemplate pushing ahead with a deal. Nevertheless, their desire to sign him remains considerable.
