Lego has unveiled the Venetian Neighbourhood, one of its last big adult sets for Christmas, featuring a gigantic diorama of Venice complete with a canal and luxury villa.
The set, which consists of 5,682 Lego pieces, measures 64cm wide, 48cm high, and 33cm deep. It is aimed at adults and would make a desirable Christmas present, either for those seeking a reminder of the real city or anyone who appreciates detailed Lego design.
Complex city environment with interactive features
Venetian Neighbourhood is one of the biggest and most complex city environments Lego has ever made, with a detailed canal and waterfront, as well as a luxury villa and an artisanal glassblowing workshop. There is also a working astrological clock, with the tower decorated with various minifigure-sized statues.
Another play feature is the flower vase on the special 3D-printed street piano, which actually plays notes when turned. Lego has only just started experimenting with 3D-printed pieces, and this one has been designed to allow for more complex interactive elements than usual.
Modular design and minifigures
The model includes one of the famous arched bridges and a gondola, but the whole model is modular, so you can switch the different buildings around to form two separate sections or remove the roofs to display the detailed interiors. One of the towers has four separate sections, allowing you to peek inside at each floor.
There are 17 minifigures, including mask-wearing carnival-goers, gondoliers, and musicians, plus a bunch of Lego pigeons to position as you wish.
Pricing and availability
The set is number 11388 and costs £449.99. It will go on sale from November 4 at Lego stores and the Lego website, but Lego Insiders, who can sign up for free, can get it from November 1. There is also a free gift with purchase available between November 1 and 8, with the Venetian Water Taxi (40898) set, which includes an extra boat and dock, and two additional minifigures. This is only available while stocks last.
