The Royal Household, under King Charles III and Queen Camilla, is seeking a videographer to produce 'on-trend' content for its social media platforms. The position, offering a salary of £52,000, is a permanent role within the royal communications team in the Private Secretary's office. This marks the first time a British monarch has hired a dedicated videographer, with applications closing on July 12.
Role and Responsibilities
The successful candidate will cover major state events and capture behind-the-scenes moments for platforms including Instagram, X, and YouTube. The job advertisement states: 'It's using your creativity to bring stories to life. It's inspiring millions through powerful visual content. This is what makes a career with the Royal Household exceptional.'
The advertisement adds: 'The Royal Communications team is at the heart of how the Royal Family connects with audiences around the world. As videographer, you'll play a key role in shaping how those stories are told across digital platforms, capturing moments that are shared globally.'
Key Duties and Requirements
Responsibilities include covering royal visits, engagements, and key initiatives across the UK and occasionally overseas. The videographer must stay updated on trends to maximize reach and engagement. The Royal Household seeks an 'experienced videographer' with a 'strong creative instinct' and understanding of social media content, someone who brings 'fresh ideas, a proactive mindset and a passion for storytelling.'
The role is 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday, with perks including 25 days of annual leave (rising to 30) and a 20% discount at Royal Collection Trust Shops.
Public Reaction
The announcement sparked mixed reactions online. One X user fumed: 'Since when does a British monarch need to be "on trend" or reach a global audience? This lot are clearly not as popular as the polls suggest. This smells desperate.' Another pondered: 'On-trend… are they influencers now? How pathetic.' A third slammed: 'Royal Family don't bother, you'll be gone soon and then we will have a real King and Queen who cares about us.' A fourth asked: 'Who on earth would watch anything they make? Two unattractive, boring elderly people famous for the Tampongate phone call.'
Supporters also voiced opinions. One X user exclaimed: 'Good. It is the modern era.' Another enthused: 'This is much needed! A fabulous move!' A third agreed: 'Finally. They are definitely one of the few heads of state and their spouses in the world without an official videographer.'
Buckingham Palace has been invited to respond.
