Apple's first foldable iPhone, the iPhone Duo, will be available for pre-order from tomorrow, Friday, October 16, with prices starting at £2,000. The device, first revealed last month, marks one of the biggest changes to Apple's smartphone in years, featuring a passport-style design that opens to reveal a larger second screen.
The front houses a small 5.4-inch display that unfolds to a more spacious 7.6-inch iPad-style panel. Apple has added a nano-texture finish to the larger panel, which reduces glare and makes the crease that has affected many rival Android foldables almost invisible.
Key features and pricing
Other highlights include a dual-lens camera, Touch ID fingerprint scanner, A20 Pro processor, and a reinforced design with a precision-engineered hinge that Apple says is built to last. Software has been tweaked to make the most of the extra screen space, with apps including Netflix already optimised for the foldable design.
The iPhone Duo arrives in stores on October 23, with prices starting at £2,000. Those wanting more storage could see the bill exceed £3,000.
Ways to make it more affordable
Apple is offering trade-in deals that could knock more than £800 off the cost, depending on the device handed over. Customers can check their current phone's value by visiting Apple's iPhone Duo pre-order page and entering its serial number, found under Settings > General > About on an existing iPhone.
Another option is 0% finance, allowing purchases from as little as £66.63 a month without trading in a device. That deal does not include calls, texts, or mobile data, but SIM-only plans are available from around £5 a month.
Pre-orders open this Friday, October 16, ahead of the phone's arrival in shops a week later.
CEO's statement
Apple CEO John Ternus described the device as the biggest transformation to the iPhone since the original model launched, saying its new design and integrated hardware and software would redefine the foldable phone experience.
