iPhone 18 Pro unveiled with faster chip, better camera, higher price

Apple has officially unveiled its latest Pro smartphones, the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max, featuring significant upgrades to performance, camera, and battery life, alongside a higher starting price.

Design and colours

The new models introduce two fresh colour options: burgundy and glacier, which replace last year's Cosmic Orange shade. These join black and silver, giving customers four colour choices in total.

Performance and battery

Power comes from the new A20 Pro chip, which Apple says makes the devices up to 20 per cent faster and more capable when using Apple Intelligence and the all-new Siri. The improved GPU offers 40 per cent faster graphics performance, which should enhance gaming. Better thermal performance and a new vapour chamber help keep the device cool under heavy use.

Battery life has been boosted, and faster wired charging means the phone can go from 0 to 50 per cent in just 15 minutes.

Camera upgrades

The triple-lens rear camera now includes a new 48MP fusion camera with variable aperture, using six laser-cut blades to automatically adjust depth of field and lighting. Combined with a new sensor, this improves low-light photography and detail in group photos.

Pro controls and upgraded Photographic Styles with new texture and grain controls give users more creative control over their images.

Dynamic Island and price

The Dynamic Island is now smaller but can expand to show more information, including three Live Activities at once, while still supporting Face ID.

Prices for the iPhone 18 Pro start at £1,199, with the Pro Max at £1,299 — £100 more than the previous iPhone 17 Pro range.

“With iPhone 18 Pro, we’ve made advancements to the areas our users care about most: camera, performance, battery, and intelligence. And we didn’t just make incremental improvements in these areas — we took huge leaps forward to create the best Pro iPhone we’ve ever made,” said Greg Joswiak, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing.
