Apple's next-generation iPhone range is expected to be unveiled at the company's traditional autumn keynote in Cupertino, California, within the next six weeks. History suggests the annual event typically takes place in early September, and this year's calendar points to September 8, 9, or 10 as the most likely dates.
Apple has not yet confirmed anything officially, but previous launch dates offer a clear pattern:
- Apple iPhone 17 - Tuesday, September 9
- Apple iPhone 16 - Monday, September 9
- Apple iPhone 15 - Tuesday, September 12
- Apple iPhone 14 - Wednesday, September 7
- Apple iPhone 13 - Tuesday, September 14
Standard iPhone 18 could be delayed
Despite the expected timeframe, two major changes are rumoured for this year's event. First, the standard iPhone 18, which would replace the current iPhone 17, may not make an appearance at the September keynote. Some experts believe those waiting for the device will have to hold on until spring 2027.
That would be highly unusual, as the non-Pro models remain among the most popular iPhones worldwide.
A foldable iPhone and new Pro models
Filling the gap could be Apple's first foldable device, which has been widely tipped for release this year. This handset could closely resemble Samsung's Galaxy Z Fold8, featuring a design that looks a little like a passport. When unfolded, the display might mimic that of an iPad mini; when closed, it would be small enough to slip into a pocket.
Alongside the foldable, new Pro models are also expected, possibly making the September event more focused on Apple's premium devices. Foldables are not yet mass-market products, but the arrival of an iPhone Fold could change that.
With the event possibly just over a month away, an official date could be announced in the coming weeks.
