Apple's iPad Transforms Battersea Power Station with 24 Festive Designs
iPad Christmas Art Lights Up Battersea Power Station

London's iconic Battersea Power Station is receiving a dazzling digital makeover this festive season, courtesy of Apple's iPad. From today until Christmas Eve, the historic building's towering chimneys will be illuminated with 24 unique Christmas tree designs, all created on the popular tablet.

Your Tree on Battersea: A Public Art Competition

The colourful artwork is the result of Apple's first-ever public competition, titled "Your Tree on Battersea." The tech giant invited members of the public to submit their festive creations, with winning entries being hand-picked from a vast number of submissions. The selected designs will be projected onto two of the power station's 101-metre-high chimneys each evening after sunset, creating a spectacular sight over the River Thames.

"I'm so excited to be selected in this competition," said winner Varsha Simha from Canterbury. "I was inspired by the sweaters, stockings, and all the warm things at the Christmas market in the coldest of months."

Celebrity Sketches and Creative Legacy

The public entries are joined by drawings from a host of famous faces, adding star power to the display. Contributors include Kylie Minogue, Sir Stephen Fry, rugby star Maro Itoje, author Oliver Jeffers, artist David Shrigley OBE, and comedian Chawawa.

This initiative continues Apple's tradition of celebrating holiday creativity through its technology. Previous projects saw artist David Hockney create "Bigger Christmas Trees" on an iPad Pro in 2023, and Aardman Animations—the studio behind Wallace & Gromit—use an iPhone 16 Pro Max for a short festive film last year.

"Hosting Apple's first-ever iPad Christmas tree competition is a full-circle moment for me," said Chawawa. "As a kid, I spent every weekend going into the store and filling up an iPad with photos of my forehead, so to now be leading Your Tree on Battersea is very special. I love that we're assembling the nation to create Christmas trees on iPad and lighting them up across the greatest city in the world."

A Festive Landmark for London

The project creates a symbolic link between the tech giant and its UK home, as Apple's London headquarters is located within the redeveloped Battersea Power Station complex. The installation offers a free festive treat for visitors to the capital, transforming an industrial landmark into a canvas for digital Christmas cheer.

The illuminated designs will be visible from today, 4th December 2025, and will continue to brighten the London skyline every night until 24th December.
