Music fans at some of the UK's biggest summer festivals can get free calls and data from Vodafone, avoiding the nightmare of losing phone signal. The telecoms giant is offering a free trial at seven events.
How It Works
Fans who spot a special QR code on festival grounds can join Vodafone's network for seven days with no commitments. Non-customers get 50GB of data, 500 minutes, and 500 texts completely free.
Once scanned, an eSIM can be installed via the My Vodafone app. Users need an eSIM-compatible smartphone but do not have to change their existing number or swap their SIM card. They can switch between networks using device settings.
Festivals Included
Vodafone is official connectivity partner or major sponsor at: Reading and Leeds, Latitude (Suffolk), Camp Bestival (Dorset), Wilderness (Oxfordshire), Kendal Calling (Cumbria), and Boardmasters (Cornwall). The trial was already deployed at Download Festival in June.
Vodafone's Commitment
A Vodafone spokesman said: “As The Nation’s Network, we want to connect the nation to the people and the things they love, and bringing our network trial to even more festivals is just one way we are doing this. We know that historically, reliable connectivity at festivals has been a pain point for festival goers. Our network trial will offer non-Vodafone customers the chance to trial our network if they can’t connect to their own provider and allow them to enjoy the festival and not worry about staying connected.”
Vodafone has served the UK since the first mobile phone call on its network in 1984. It now covers 99% of UK households and is the network of choice for 82% of the country's emergency services.
