Government grants of up to £3,750 are available on eligible new electric vehicles (EVs), making the switch more attractive, but insurance premiums can add to the cost. Experts at Go.Compare have revealed the EVs with the lowest insurance premiums to consumer watchdog Which?, based on policies sold through its platform between January 1 and March 31, 2026.
Cheapest EVs to Insure
The Fiat 500 is the most affordable EV to insure, with a median annual premium of £278. The Mini Cooper follows at £304, and the Dacia Spring at £333. At the other end, the Porsche Taycan is the most costly at £861 per year.

The Electric Car Grant scheme provides £3,750 off new Band 1 electric vehicles and £1,500 off new Band 2 electric vehicles, for cars priced at or below £37,000.
